Personally I will not teach this period but continue organizing guided tours in museums, once or twice a month.

0) CREA summercourse Still Life in oilpaint (July 11-15 ,2011)

Again this year CREA (connected to the University of Amsterdam) will organize creative Summer week courses. Photoshop, photograph, video, editing, theater, writing, painting etcetera...
I will join with a week program still life painting in oils. All the week courses are very intensive. Everybody can join. Students of the UvA and HvA as well as employees of these schools will have a small financial benefit.
The courses are organized every week starting from Monday, ending Friday evenings with a presentation. The Summercourse event will last from July 4th. till August 19th. Somewhere in March the courses and descriptions will be online at http://www.crea.uva.nl/zomer.php

Peter - Still lifes- Crea Summer course July 11 till 15, 2011

The course - what will you do?
Who does not know these still life paintings full of ingredients such as: pots, pans, pitchers, half-filled wine glasses, oysters, burned candles, caps, cheese and so on.

If you walk around in the Rijksmuseum, sometimes these still lifes seems so real, showing the illusion of half finished lunches and dinners. An illusion of reality.

But do they show just the ingredients or is there a hidden deeper meaning behind these ingredients? Art historians are skilled detectives who try to solve these puzzles and riddles.

In this week summer course we will focus on the practical side of making still lifes in oil! You learn the basics of working in oils as well as building up in paint a simple "banquet" or "set table". Issues such as composition, light and shadow logic and color mixing will be discussed. We will also review modern times still lifes as a source of inspiration.

And of course we will pay a visit to one of the museums in Amsterdam to study the great examples in real.

Enrollment
The summer course is suitable for the 'absolute beginner' as well as the advanced painter.

Presentation
Every summer week ends with a joint presentation evening on Friday, where all students - actors, musicians, writers and artists - participate. So don't schedule this evening in your calendar!

Extra
CREA pay's half the entry fees of the museum visit.

Peter Eurlings works as a guide and teacher. Also known of the previous Summer course editions: "The Color Revolution, landscape painting like the impressionists" and "Portrait Painting".

Splendour & Glory, Artworks of the Russian-Orthodox church of the Hermitage St. Peterburg on display in the satelite Hermitage Museum in Amsterdam

Date of this tour will be announced soon.

 The exhibition Splendour & Glory in the Hermitage Amsterdam will start on March 19 2011.
300 objects will be on display showing the Russian Christian tradition like icons, fresco fragments, costumes, paitings, books and other artefacts.

In this tour we will discuss the Byzantine image tradition and trying to discover the difference with Western Christian image traditions as well as the applied techniques.

Kees Arntzen drawing, painting, litho, Amsterdam and Gerano (near Rome) Italy
Kees is a musician, music composer, journalist and trained artist!
He teaches art and music at different institutions.
Besides teaching art and music (even combinations) in Amsterdam he is the initiator of art-holiday's (music or painting/drawing) in Gerano nearby Rome (Italy).
His recent programm for the next few months (first half 2011) is:
  • Litho- en dry neadle etching course on the following Weekends: March 12 & 13, March 26 & 27, April 9 & 10.
  • Holiday course in Gerano (near Rome) on April 30 - May 7, and, May 7 - May 14. You can subscribe for art lessons or music lessons.
  • Starting May 17, Kees will start a cityscape drawing course ( 5 times Tuesday afternoon) at the Volksuniversiteit Amsterdam.

    Since 2003 Kees Arntzen organizes painting courses in Gerano (near Rome). This year from April 30 - May 7th and May 7th - 14th 2011 (one week from saturday till saturday)

    Gerano offers many very pittoresque places for the landscape-painter.
    From the olive fields you have a wonderful view on the 10th century village.
    Within the bounderies of the old city-walls you will encounter many small streets, porches and piazza's, where you will find many other good spots for drawing and/or painting.
    You will have instruction in drawing and watercolorpainting each day in the morning hours for about three hours. During the afternoon you can continue your work or enjoy yourselves in another way.

    Organized by Sylvia Berkel and Marion Molier, every Thursday evening painting and drawing after musicians and dance performers.

    Different brushes and their brushstrokes: Class A, round; Class B, flat; Class C, full flat brush with rounded corners; Class D, filbert shape.Your standard painting equipment should contain:
    Brushes
    Available are round and flat brushes and you should try them both. If you are a starter then try first the all-round pig hair flat brushes with rounded top (filberts). Use a basic set with different width sizes till 35 mm. Try to estimate the width because almost every firm uses there own size (number) system.
    Good quality brands like Da Vince are expensive and if you are a beginner you could start painting with a cheap basic set.
    The palet of the painter Delacriox. A big size palette has a lot of advantages for arranging and mixing colors.
    Palette
    A wooden or plastic board to arrange and mix colours. A big size is comfortable because of the amount of space available for mixing.

    Paletknifes of different sizes and shapes are often sold in a basic set.Palette knifes
    With a palette knife you can mix, scrape or even paint. A few different sizes should be part of your standard painting equipment.

    Cleaning brushes (after using with oilpaint)
    Cleaning your brushes in a proper way extend their lifetime. Get rid of most of the paint by using a paper e.g. the pages of a telephone book. Dip the brush in mineral turpentine and again wipe the brush clean with paper/ telephonebook. Wash the brush thoroughly clean with natural soap and warm water at body temperature till all paint is gone. Let the brush dry with the hair turned upside eventually wrapping the hair into kitchenpaper to shape them before drying. Never let the brush dry with the hair turned downwards. Use acid resistant gloves of good and thick quality when cleaning the brushes available at the better 'do it yourself and tools' store. Follow the same procedure for cleaning brushes after using them with acrylics without the turpentine cleaning step. Be aware that when using acrylics your brushes should be kept wet during the painting session because of the fast drying time of the paint.

    Different brushes and their brushstrokes: Class A, round; Class B, flat; Class C, full flat brush with rounded corners; Class D, filbert shape.Your standard painting equipment should contain:
    Brushes
    Available are round and flat brushes and you should try them both. If you are a starter then try first the all-round pig hair flat brushes with rounded top (filberts). Use a basic set with different width sizes till 35 mm. Try to estimate the width because almost every firm uses there own size (number) system.
    Good quality brands like Da Vince are expensive and if you are a beginner you could start painting with a cheap basic set.
    The palet of the painter Delacriox. A big size palette has a lot of advantages for arranging and mixing colors.
    Palette
    A wooden or plastic board to arrange and mix colours. A big size is comfortable because of the amount of space available for mixing.

    Paletknifes of different sizes and shapes are often sold in a basic set.Palette knifes
    With a palette knife you can mix, scrape or even paint. A few different sizes should be part of your standard painting equipment.

    Cleaning brushes (after using with oilpaint)
    Cleaning your brushes in a proper way extend their lifetime. Get rid of most of the paint by using a paper e.g. the pages of a telephone book. Dip the brush in mineral turpentine and again wipe the brush clean with paper/ telephonebook. Wash the brush thoroughly clean with natural soap and warm water at body temperature till all paint is gone. Let the brush dry with the hair turned upside eventually wrapping the hair into kitchenpaper to shape them before drying. Never let the brush dry with the hair turned downwards. Use acid resistant gloves of good and thick quality when cleaning the brushes available at the better 'do it yourself and tools' store. Follow the same procedure for cleaning brushes after using them with acrylics without the turpentine cleaning step. Be aware that when using acrylics your brushes should be kept wet during the painting session because of the fast drying time of the paint.

    Modernity in the 20th. century was developed on the heritage of 19th. century artists like Vincent van Gogh, Cezanne and Gauguin.
    This exhibition is about the Volpini exhibition in Paris during the famous World Fare of 1889 (Eifel Tower).
    Later this month we will visit the exhibtion in the Hermitage in Amsterdam about the beginning of Modernity starting from Matisse till Malevich.
